Trailer Park: So you won’t waste your money on bad movies
INTERMISSION|
Movie trailers are a tricky business. They have about 2.5 minutes to convince us that the featured movie is the funniest, scariest, grittiest, generally most awesome film of the moment that deserves our immediate time and money. This means that they are not above picking the only two funny scenes in an otherwise awful movie in an attempt to convince us that it is in fact a good movie.
Flicks shows “Pan’s Labyrinth”: Delivers eye candy and gore
INTERMISSION|
Guillermo del Toro, producer of such cinematic gems as “The Hulk” and “Hellboy” (who doesn’t remember those fine movies?), finally redeems himself with the fairy tale “Pan’s Labyrinth.” This movie takes place in 1944 Spain, years after the Spanish Civil War of the 1930s. The plot cleverly interweaves a fairy tale with gruesome depictions of military abuse and warring factions.
But don’t be fooled by the “fairy tale” moniker, because this is no Disney fantasy, by far. The story’s main character, an 11 year-old girl named Ofelia, wanders off in the woods to find dilapidated remains that later turn out to be a labyrinth. There she meets the first of several magical characters, Pan the faun. Pan sets up a series of challenges for Ofelia, none exactly fit for a pre-teen. Ofelia’s tasks would make plenty an adult wet their pants.
Be Royalty at Siam Royal
INTERMISSION|
After being closed for renovation for the past three months, Siam Royal, an authentic Thai restaurant on University Drive, has recently reopened and definitely looks better than ever. Moving the kitchen to the back, the restaurant is about double the size it used to be, with the same high ceilings it used to have, but also now a very roomy seating area. With so much space, the restaurant was refreshing to be in, and even on a Tuesday night, it was busy enough that the restaurant did not look too empty with the great amount of tables there are now for service.

An eye opening experience: ‘Cassadaga’ by Bright Eyes
INTERMISSION|
Conor Oberst, front-man of the indie band Bright Eyes has the emo look down: he wears plaid, is poetic and soft-spoken and has long, generally greasy hair that falls into his eyes when he sings.
‘New Moon’ is a light touch and a good sound
INTERMISSION|
Pick an Elliott Smith song at random and you’ll have no problem teasing out hints of addiction, confession, depression or suicide. But if Smith’s themes are typical, his songs are anything but. Unlike the vast herd of self-styled singer-songwriters, Smith never failed to imbue depression with lyricism; anger with self-reflection — his songs are powerful, intimate intelligent, and complex. Three and a half years after a headline-grabbing suicide, Smith’s New Moon reminds us that his legacy is in his songwriting, not his sadness.
Roxy feels you up...in bed

Ladies, you all know the drill. Especially if there’s alcohol in his system, he’s going to fall asleep after you do the deed. It could be the most mind — (and everything else) blowing sex of your life, but odds are he’ll be out like a light within sixty seconds. He might not even pull out first, which probably leaves you crushed under a sweaty dead weight reeking of beer.
