OLD Join The Daily

A platform made for you
We accept any interested grad students and undergrads. You can do what you want, when, and no experience is needed. Those not enrolled as students are also invited to contribute. All members are welcomed to our Slack. (Not familiar with it? We’ll teach you!)

Click here for our guide to possible roles for new members across our many sections (which are introduced below). We always want to hear your ideas, too! Contact [email protected] at any time.
Click here if you want to submit something for publication but are not a member of The Daily’s staff. It’s easier to work with The Daily if you join, but this is a great option for non-students. Contact [email protected] with any questions.
We offer many resources, including an audience of hundreds of thousands for your work, a network of journalism (and non-journalism) connections and perks such as free membership to journalist affinity groups and eligibility for Daily-exclusive scholarships.

We also have experienced Daily staffers serving as orientation mentors, helping to on-board groups of new staffers. It’s a great way to get to know The Daily, its people and more of the Stanford community in general, especially given the limitations of the pandemic. You’ll never be left to figure things out by yourself!
Too busy to spend much time on an unpaid activity? We are piloting a program that will allow a limited number of Daily staffers with financial need to be paid for their work, regardless of their position on staff, after a quarter of demonstrated interest. In the past, only Daily editors have been paid. Nobody should be kept from any opportunity at The Daily because of financial concerns. Please contact [email protected] with any questions.

Apply by 11:59 p.m. on April 8 to join The Daily’s spring recruitment class!

In normal times, we publish a newspaper every week, two print magazines each volume, and Stanford’s yearbook, The Quad. This fall, we’ll continue to bring the Stanford community news every day, online, and we’ll also produce multimedia content, data-driven investigative projects and our first entirely web-based magazines. To make all of this happen, we need a team of staffers — writers, photographers, graphic designers, web developers, business strategists and more — with diverse interests and skill sets.

No matter your background experience, your area of study or your other campus involvements, we want you to feel empowered to craft a Daily experience that’s most fulfilling (and fun!) for you. The Daily is already yours as much as it is ours.

The deadline to be part of our spring recruitment class is April 8. Everyone who applies is guaranteed a spot, though we use applications to help with section placements. You can read more about our sections and teams above.

With Daily love,

Erin Woo ’21 and Layo Laniyan ’22
Editor-in-Chief and Executive Editor
