Psychiatric patient assaults Stanford Hospital nurse, investigation underway

March 19, 2019, 10:00 p.m.

A female nurse in her 70s suffered “serious injuries” following an attack by a patient in the psychiatric facility of the Stanford Hospital on March 12, according to the Palo Alto Police Department (PAPD).

The case has been sent to the District Attorney’s office for review and is currently under investigation, PAPD Public Information Officer Craig Lee told The Daily. The patient may be charged with battery and elder abuse.

Because the incident occured in a locked area, there is no danger to the public, Lee added.

Stanford Hospital reported the assault to the PAPD on March 14. Due to “patient privacy rules,” Stanford Health Care declined to offer any additional information on the matter.
