Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education John C. Bravman ’79 M.S. ’81 Ph.D. ’85 is set to leave Stanford in late June to become president of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.

“My days here have not been short — more than 12,000! — but this is the last of my springs at this beloved school,” Bravman wrote in an e-mail to Freshman-Sophomore College residents on a rainy Monday morning, just ahead of announcements from Stanford and Bucknell.

Bravman, 52, has been vice provost since 1999. A materials science professor, he founded Freshman-Sophomore College and has helped raise more than $1.1 billion for undergraduate education at Stanford. He is set to join Bucknell in the midst of a $400 million fundraising campaign there.

“John Bravman has been a treasured member of the Stanford community for nearly 35 years, first as an outstanding student, then as a faculty member, and finally as a university leader,” said University President John Hennessy in a statement. “During that time he has been a distinguished researcher, one of our most highly regarded and sought-after teachers, and an energetic and admired leader.”

Bravman will replace current president Brian C. Mitchell at Bucknell, a 3,500-student private liberal arts university in eastern Pennsylvania.
