Manzanita Dining adds breakfast on Thursdays

March 5, 2015, 10:14 p.m.

In addition to weekday lunch and dinner offerings, Manzanita Dining has begun offering weekly hot breakfasts. In response to student demand, breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday mornings.

The continental breakfast has thus far consisted of typical dining hall foods, such as scrambled eggs, yogurts and fruits, pancakes and made-to-order breakfast burritos. Dining staff explained that the menu will be open to change based on student input.

Manzanita dining primarily caters to the Manzanita Park complex, which consists of Kimball, Castaña and Lantana halls. The dorms house approximately 425 students. In the past, the dining hall has served only two meals a day, dinner and lunch, and remained closed on weekends.

The breakfasts commenced in mid-February. According to Jisoo Keel ’17, dining ambassador for Castaño Hall, the Manzanita Dining Team began the service “in response to the requests of many residents in Manzanita Park.”

To formalize the process, Keel gauged interest of residents through a survey and forwarded his findings to staff. According to Keel, residents he spoke to were excited at the prospect of the breakfast, especially those “who don’t always want to travel far to get food in the morning.”

Whether or not the service will continue is contingent on student demand.

“If lots of people keep attending and supporting the weekly breakfasts, I believe we will continue until the end of the school year,” Keel said.
