Kim Hess, 58, the manager of Late Nite in the Lagunita dining hall, has died, according to Stanford Dining.

In a note posted Sunday morning to its Facebook page, Dining said Hess, who had managed Lag Late Nite for seven years, passed away yesterday.

“He was a legend of after hours dining on the Stanford campus,” said the note, which was followed by a growing list of condolence messages from students. “Each night, he would welcome students to his ‘kitchen’ and talk with them about their studies, sports or life in general. He was in his element during these after hours periods.”

“Late Nite will never be the same without Kim,” wrote one student, Vaeme Afokpa ’13. “It was not only his food that kept us awake working on finals/papers — it was also his enthusiasm.”
