Football: Stanford rolls over Arizona, 42-17

Nov. 6, 2010, 8:49 p.m.

In one of its most significant contests to date, the No. 13 Stanford football team (8-1, 5-1 Pac-10) defeated No. 15 Arizona (7-2, 4-2) on Saturday night. The Cardinal allowed just 3 first-half points en route to a 42-17 victory, making its case as one of the top teams in the country.

Stanford’s offense put up a lot of yards against a previously stout Arizona defense. Stanford redshirt sophomore quarterback Andrew Luck threw for 293 yards and two touchdowns while suffering no sacks, and sophomore tailback Stepfan Taylor added four rushing touchdowns to the Card’s offensive output.

Defensively, Stanford stuffed Arizona’s prolific attack, led by quarterback Nick Foles. The Arizona passer was hit repeatedly and sacked twice, and the Cardinal was in the Wildcat backfield all game long.
