Stanford defeats Oregon State, 38-0

Nov. 27, 2010, 7:52 p.m.

In its third shutout this season, the No. 6 Stanford football team routed Oregon State on Saturday night in a 38-0 win. Stanford’s offense manhandled the Beaver defense, rolling up 470 offensive yards. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Andrew Luck threw for 305 yards on 21-of-30 passing, and tossed four touchdowns on the evening.

Stanford’s defense engineered another excellent performance for its third shutout over a conference opponent this season. The Beavers turned the ball over five times, including three interceptions from quarterback Ryan Katz. Stanford’s front seven was especially impressive, overpowering the Oregon State offensive line to bottle up running back Jacquizz Rodgers and keep the pressure up on Katz all game long. Rodgers only had 76 rushing yards on the game, and Katz was sacked four times, with 2.5 of those sacks coming courtesy of Stanford linebacker Chase Thomas.

The Cardinal is now 11-1 and 8-1 in the Pac-10, reaching 11 wins for the first time in program history. Oregon State leaves Stanford Stadium at 5-6 and 4-4 in the conference, needing a win in next weekend’s game against Oregon in Corvallis to earn bowl eligibility. With officials from several major bowls on hand, Stanford made an impressive case for inclusion in one of the country’s premier bowl games.
