The basement of Pigott Hall, also known as the Language Corner, officially reopened today following nearly three weeks of repair work. A broken water main flooded the basement on Jan. 25 and caused classes to relocate as repairs were underway. Classes resumed in their assigned rooms today.
“The biggest challenge [of the repair process] was trying to get it done as quickly as possible so we could get the classes back in,” said Julie Hardin-Stauter, associate director of zone management,
Stanford sought the assistance of Restoration Management Company and Culter Construction in fixing the flooded basement. Restoration Management Company was responsible for removing the damaged carpet and tiles, and then completely drying them. Culter Construction later joined the repair process “to put everything back together,” Hardin-Stauter said.
“It was really a collaborative effort,” she added.
Building and Grounds Maintenance also contributed by taking care of needs related to electricity and plumbing. Information Technology Services (ITS) worked to restore network connections to the basement’s classrooms.
An estimate of the costs of these repairs is not yet available.
