Junior forward Chiney Ogwumike was named to the AP Preseason All-America team.

She joins familiar faces in names like Baylor’s Brittney Griner, Notre Dame’s Skylar Diggins and Delaware’s Elena Della Donne. Though unlike these other forwards, the Cypress, Texas native still has two more years of college ball ahead of her.

Stanford is also ranked No. 4 in the Preseason USA Today Sports/ESPN Coaches Poll behind the team that knocked it out of last year’s NCAA tournament, No. 1 Baylor, and its nemesis from recent seasons, No. 2 Connecticut.

The team will play exhibition games against Corban and Vanguard this Thursday and Saturday before the season officially tips off against Fresno State a week from Friday.

Men’s soccer’s Jahn wins Pac-12 Player of the Week.

Senior forward Adam Jahn’s goal against UC Santa Barbara in overtime last Friday won the game for the Cardinal and brought him Pac-12 honors yesterday.

The El Macero, Calif., native’s ninth goal of the season was the only score in a close game against the No. 25 Gauchos and his third match-winning goal this season. He leads the team in both shots (50) and goals and has now scored 20 times in his Cardinal career.

Stanford now heads south to face two very different teams on the road, No. 5 UCLA on Thursday and San Diego State on Saturday. The Bruins are second in the Pac-12 standings, while the Aztecs are still without a single win in the conference.
