Both of Stanford’s basketball teams recently bolstered their coaching staffs with notable and experienced names, as the men’s and women’s squads hired Tim O’Toole and Tempie Brown, respectively, as assistant coaches going into next season.
O’Toole will join the Cardinal after leaving his position as the Director of Basketball Operations at Syracuse University. Throughout his 20-year Division I coaching career, he served as an assistant coach for six schools, including at Duke under distinguished head coach Mike Krzyzewski, before receiving the head coaching job at Fairfield University. During his eight-year career at Fairfield, he was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Coach of the Year in 2004 and led the team to a 2003 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) berth.
In coming to The Farm, Brown will leave her position as Associate Head Coach of a successful Michigan State Spartans program. The Spartans clinched NCAA Tournament berths in each of Brown’s four seasons in East Lansing. In addition, Brown also played a key role in the development of several young players and oversaw unprecedented academic success among the players on her teams. Brown will bring 14 years of collegiate coaching experience to Stanford and will look to help continue the program’s tradition of success.
