Senior swimmer David Nolan broke Stanford, Pac-12, NCAA, U.S Open and American records in the 200-yard individual medley Thursday at the Pac-12 Championships.
Nolan notched a time of 1:40.07 (21.96, 24.95, 29.05, 24.11), beating the former record holder, Olympian Ryan Lochte, who had scored 1:40:08.
The senior has had considerable success with this event in the past. He held not only the nationwide high school record (1:41:39), but also Stanford’s record (1:41:21) and won the event at the NCAA championship two years ago.
The Hershey, Pennsylvania resident will graduate from the Farm with a degree in biomedical engineering and a computer science minor.
Nolan’s strong performance helped Stanford capture the tournament’s lead with 288 points after the second day of competition. The tournament, located in Federal Way, Washington, will conclude on Saturday.
