Beach volleyball closes regular season with 4-1 losses

Stanford beach volleyball (5-10, 1-2 Pac-12) dropped its final two matches of the regular season when it hosted San Jose State (8-11) and Santa Clara (9-2) for a Thursday doubleheader.

Only Stanford’s No. 2 pair – junior Ivana Vanjak and sophomore Catherine Raquel – pulled off a win against the Spartans, with a 21-18, 21-15 victory.
In the matchup with Santa Clara, the Cardinal also fell in a 4-1 decision. No. 3 junior Merete Lutz and freshman Halland McKenna came from behind to take Stanford’s only point, winning 12-21, 21-16, 17-15. The No. 1 pair of freshmen Hayley Hodson and Payton Chang took the first set but dropped the next two for a final line of 21-15, 18-21, 13-15.
Up next, the Cardinal will travel to Los Angeles to compete in the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championships at USC. The matches will kick off on Thursday, April 28.
