Stanford men’s basketball (8-8, 2-1 Pac-12) hits the road this weekend to face Washington State (8-7, 0-3) on Thursday before taking on Washington (12-4, 2-1) on Sunday. After playing three conference games at home, this will be the team’s first conference games away from the Farm.
The Cardinal are coming off two exciting wins against UCLA and USC. The team first overcame the Bruins in double overtime on Thursday, and just days later freshman guard Daejon Davis beat the buzzer from halfcourt to put Stanford one point ahead of USC, 77-76.
The win over the Trojans was even sweeter as Stanford came back from a 15-point hole, led by senior Reid Travis’ 29 points, tying his career-best. The senior also brought down 10 rebounds to earn yet another double-double.
Stanford definitely has momentum heading into this weekend, and will first face a Washington State team that has lost three straight. Last season, the Cardinal beat the Cougars 84-54 in a convincing win behind a career-high 21 points from Robert Cartwright.
Similarly, the Cardinal came away with a win against Washington last year, avoiding a Husky takeover of the second half. Senior Michael Humphries had 18 points, enough to stop former Husky and current 76er Markelle Fultz.
This time around, Stanford will still need the whole squad to step up against a Washington team that has only lost one home game. Moreover, four Huskies — Jaylen Nowell, Noah Dickerson, David Crisp and Matisse Thybulle — average over ten points per game this season. The Cardinal also has four scorers who average more than 10 a game, including Travis who is at 21.4 points a contest so far this season.
On Thursday, the action will start at 6 p.m. on ESPNU. To follow Sunday’s game, tune in to Pac-12 networks starting at 5 p.m.
