No. 17 women’s basketball hosts Utah, Colorado

Feb. 8, 2018, 1:36 a.m.

No. 17 Stanford women’s basketball (16-8, 10-2 Pac-12) returns home after a momentous road trip through Oregon last weekend. Utah (15-8, 6-6) and Colorado (12-11, 3-9) come to Maples on Friday and Sunday, respectively, to face a strong Cardinal team.

Taking on No. 16 Oregon State on Friday and No. 6 Oregon on Sunday, the Cardinal swept both squads with impressive play.

Senior guard Brittany McPhee recorded her second career double-double against the Beavers with 18 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. She even surpassed that production with her performance against the Ducks. Down nine at the half and with only two points scored, McPhee dropped 31 points in the second half to give the Cardinal a 78-65 victory.

Her performances earned her espnW National Player of the Week and Pac-12 Player of the Week.

“[McPhee] was just not going to let her team lose,” Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer said. “Period. She just said no, it ain’t happening and give me the ball and I’m going to make shots and make defensive plays, and that’s what she did.”

The Cardinal host the Utes on Friday at 7 p.m. PST. Utah head coach Lynne Roberts is 0-4 in her coaching career against Stanford. All of her losses against the Cardinal have come as head coach of the Utes.

Then, on Sunday at 3 p.m. PST, the Buffaloes come to Maples for a late matinee. Colorado hasn’t done well since conference play started, with a 3-9 record in the Pac-12.

The game against Utah will be broadcast on Stanford Live Stream, while the Colorado bout will be broadcast by the Pac-12 Network.
