The Stanford men’s basketball team started to gain momentum on the recruiting trail. Just days after flipping small forward Evan Stinson from Washington State, head coach Kyle Smith has brought another Class of 2024 recruit from his former employer to the Farm: 6-foot-9 center Tallis Toure. Toure announced his commitment Monday via social media. 

Rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN, Toure was the No. 6 ranked player in Nevada before moving to West Park High School in Roseville, CA. In his senior year, Toure averaged 18.7 points, 11.4 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game, while shooting 56% from the field and an impressive 39% from the 3-point line. The stretch-big had committed to Washington State last month but followed Smith to Stanford. 

As Smith continues to build his roster nearly from scratch, Toure’s commitment brings some much-needed size. His production and shooting abilities are reminiscent of junior forward Maxime Raynaud, who was the frontman for the Cardinal this past season and entered the transfer portal after the departure of former head coach Jerod Haase. Much like Raynaud, with time to develop, Toure has the potential to play a key role for Smith’s teams in the future. 

Toure joins Stinson and point guard Elijah Crawford in the Cardinal’s incoming high school class. However, the current roster remains far from complete. We will likely see Smith add names through the transfer portal or the recruiting trail in the coming weeks.
