Senior kicker Joshua Karty drafted in sixth round by Rams

On Saturday, the Los Angeles Rams found their new kicker, selecting Stanford senior kicker Joshua Karty in the sixth round. He was selected as the 209th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. The kicker from Burlington, North Carolina was the only member of the Stanford Football team to be selected in the draft.

During his time with Stanford, Karty was  regarded as one of the nation’s best kickers. He is arguably the most decorated kicker in Stanford History, holding the Stanford record for the highest field goal percentage at 85.0%. In his career he went 72 of 73 on extra point attempts and 51 of 60 on field goal tries. Most notably, Karty was a finalist for the 2022 Lou Groza Award, given to the nation’s best kicker. This was after concluding a 2022 season having gone 24 for 25 on his extra point attempts, 18 for 18 on field goal attempts, and also kicking a Stanford record 61-yarder.

The Rams, who missed an NFL high of 16 kicks in the 2023 season are hoping to address their inconsistent kicking game by drafting the Cardinal standout.
