Women’s tennis clinches No. 2 seed with Pac-12 title win

No. 3 Stanford women’s tennis captured its sixth Pac-12 title against No. 10 California in a 4-0 sweep Saturday, April 27. 

Saturday’s win marks the Cardinals’s third consecutive Pac-12 championship win and second consecutive sweep. 

The Cardinal had a strong start with doubles wins from Connie Ma and Alexandra Yepifanova (6-2) and Katherine Hui and Valencia Xu (6-4).

Angelica Blake led the way in singles on Court 1 to win 6-0, 6-1 against Cal’s Hannah Viller Moeller. Alexadra Yepifanova then defeated Jessica Alsola 6-0, 6-2. Connie Ma clinched the title with a victory over Valentina Ivanov 6-3, 6-1.

Following the Pac-12 tournament, Stanford secured the No. 2 seed in the NCAA national tournament, and will host the first two rounds, starting at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 3 with a round against Massachusetts.  

This is the third time in the last 15 tournaments that the Cardinal has been seeded higher than No. 5, with a previous No. 1 in 2011 and No. 3 in 2019. 

Stanford boasts 20 NCAA championships, and has never lost in the first two rounds of the tournament at home.
