Women’s sailing team seizes national championship

April 30, 2024, 11:50 p.m.

Stanford women’s sailing captured its fourth national championship in program history on Monday, after earning an 18-1 record to win the ICSA Women’s Team Race National Championship. The championship was hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University in Boston.

This national title continues an impressive stretch for the program, with three titles in the last two seasons after winning both the women’s and Open Fleet championships last season.

It is also important to note a runner-up finish in the 2023 Women’s Team Race Nationals.

Stanford secured 18 race victories in total while suffering only one loss to Boston College, surpassing second place Yale (13-6) by five victories. Boston College (12-7) concluded the podium standings in third place.

Led by graduate student Michelle Lahrkamp, senior Hannah Freeman and sophomore Vanessa Lahrkamp, Stanford hopes to continue its hot streak with the ICSA Women’s Fleet Race Championships next month.
