Junior quarterback Ashton Daniels plans to enter the transfer portal, he told media company On3 on Tuesday.

The dual-threat quarterback passed for over 1,700 yards and ran for 669 yards for Stanford football in the 2024 season. The Georgia product, however, threw just 10 touchdown passes to 12 interceptions this past year.

After a string of poor performances, Daniels was benched in favor of true freshman Elijah Brown during Stanford’s game against SMU, before reclaiming his starting quarterback job midway through the game against Wake Forest.

Despite receiving ample playing time, Daniels’ future with the Cardinal remained uncertain after his disappointing 2024 campaign.

Daniels is the second Stanford quarterback to transfer out after redshirt junior quarterback Justin Lamson announced his intentions to enter the portal on Monday. The transfer portal opens on Monday.

Looking ahead, the Cardinal may look to Brown and incoming freshman Bear Bachmeier to fill the void at quarterback during the 2025 season. The possibility that the Cardinal will pursue a graduate quarterback out of the transfer portal still remains open.
