Dear Community,
We are a couple weeks into Volume 267 of The Stanford Daily, so our introduction is far overdue.
We are Greta, Ananya and Lauren, the editor-in-chief and executive editors of this volume. We are incredibly excited to take the lead during this time of change in our country, and we are looking forward to bringing the Stanford community important journalism through our website, print paper, magazine and yearbook.
As the executive team, we felt the need to bring back the “Letter from the Editors” column as a part of our efforts to increase the transparency and accessibility of The Daily’s leadership team. We want to continue to forge bonds with our community, and this column is just the first step.
Along with this column, we are updating our data coverage so that anyone from the community can view our databases. In the spirit of transparency, anyone will be able to fact-check our data and draw conclusions for themselves.
Furthermore, to increase The Daily’s accessibility, we plan on hosting community events throughout the volume, like Fireside Chats at The Daily House and in other public spaces on campus. Keep an eye out for more information!
We are also making strides to improve and expand our investigative coverage and have already made a concerted effort to strengthen our Spotlight section, which handles investigative pieces. We have also revamped our tips submission process, allowing us to handle a larger volume of tips and comments, and we are in the process of reviewing our newsroom policies to ensure every piece meets the highest journalistic standards.
Through this period of growth and change, we are committed to giving our community a voice. We want to hear from you, whether that’s through a tip, an article submission or even joining our team.
Now, a little more about each of us:
Greta is from Redwood City, Calif., studying political science and communications. She started at The Daily as a copy editor, Arts & Life and News writer and Magazine editor and hopes to be a political journalist following graduation. She can almost always be found at CoHo with an iced coffee.
Ananya hails from Pearland, Texas, majoring in communications. Prior to her role as an executive editor, she worked as a News beat reporter, a Humor editor and a Video editor at The Daily. Her favorite hobby is lying down on Meyer Green.
Lauren is an international relations major from Houston, Texas. Previously at The Daily, she was a News beat reporter and editor, an Arts & Life columnist and a Sports editor. She is an avid frequenter of Tresidder (some might call her a Tresidder sushi connoisseur).
We are looking forward to the volume ahead!
Best,
