Bachmeier brothers departing The Farm, committing to BYU

Stanford football’s offseason roster changes have continued. Last Saturday, quarterback Bear Bachmeier and wide receiver Tiger Bachmeier announced that they would be committing to BYU. The brothers’ departure follows the dismissal of head coach Troy Taylor in March, which initiated a 30-day transfer window for Cardinal players.

Bear Bachmeier, a four-star recruit from Murrieta Valley High School, enrolled at Stanford in January 2025, nearly eight months ahead of schedule. Despite high expectations, he did not see game action during his brief time on The Farm. His decision to transfer comes amid a competitive quarterback room and the program’s ongoing transition under first-year general manager Andrew Luck and interim head coach Frank Reich.

Tiger Bachmeier, entering his junior year, amassed 46 receptions for 476 yards and two touchdowns over two seasons with the Cardinal. After a standout freshman season in 2023, his role diminished in 2024 due to the emergence of other receivers. Tiger also contributed on special teams, recording a 90-yard punt return touchdown against Cal Poly.

The brothers’ move to BYU reunites them on the field and adds depth to the Cougars’ roster. Bear is expected to compete for the backup quarterback position behind senior Jake Retzlaff, while Tiger aims to bolster the wide receiver corps and special teams unit.

Stanford’s football program faces a significant rebuild, having lost over 20 players to the transfer portal this offseason. The departures of the Bachmeier brothers underscore the challenges ahead as the Cardinal prepare for a new-look 2025 season.
