Sophomore Valerie Glozman captures ITA All-American singles crown

Sept. 30, 2025, 10:25 p.m.

Stanford sophomore Valerie Glozman won the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Women’s All-American Championships singles title on Sunday, defeating Texas’s No. 21-ranked Carmen Andreea Herea 6-2 and 6-3 to cap a dominant week. Valerie became Stanford’s first champion at the event since Hilary Barte in 2010. The victory also moved the Cardinal ahead of Florida for the most women’s singles titles in tournament history with five.

Seeded fourth and ranked No. 6 by the ITA entering the season, Glozman dropped only one set across six matches in the tournament. Her run included wins over multiple ranked opponents: No. 52 Emilija Tverijonaite of Arizona State, No. 47 Emma Charney of the University of Southern California (USC), No. 17 Mao Mushika of California and No. 11 Teah Chavez of Ohio State, before closing out Herea in straight sets in the final. With the title, Glozman extended her collegiate winning streak to 14 matches and improved to 20–5 against ranked foes as a Cardinal.

Glozman’s All-American championship continues a swift rise that accelerated over the summer. In June, she earned a U.S. Open main draw berth by winning the inaugural American Collegiate Wild Card Playoffs in Orlando, defeating 2024 ITA National Player of the Year Mary Stoiana 7–6, 6–3 in the final. She made her Grand Slam main-draw debut in New York on Aug. 26.

The Bellevue, Washington, native built a résumé as one of college tennis’ top underclassmen during her freshman year on The Farm. She finished 32–5 in singles (19–3 in duals), closed the season ranked No. 10 nationally, earned All-America recognition in singles, won Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Freshman of the Year and was the ITA Northwest Region Rookie of the Year. Teaming with Connie Ma, she also collected All-ACC second-team honors in doubles and finished the year No. 21 in the ITA doubles rankings.

Glozman arrived at Stanford as the nation’s No. 1 recruit per Tennis Recruiting and a two-time Easter Bowl champion, accomplishments that foreshadowed the success of her Cardinal career. She signed with the Cardinal in November 2023.

Her performance in Cary helps set the tone for Stanford’s fall slate in head coach Frankie Brennan’s second season at the helm. The Cardinal opened the 2025-26 campaign with five players in the ITA singles rankings — led by Glozman at No. 6 — and a highly touted freshman class featuring recruits Alyssa Ahn and Monika Ekstrand. Ahn advanced through qualifying and won her All-American main-draw opener, while Ekstrand reached a consolation round before withdrawing due to injury.

By reaching the All-American round of 16 earlier in the week, Glozman also secured early qualification for the NCAA Singles Championship for the second straight year — a milestone she surpassed en route to lifting the trophy on Sunday. The title adds to a growing list of Stanford winners at the All-American event: Patty Fendick (1987), Sandra Birch (1989, 1990) and Barte (2010), with Glozman now joining that group and pushing the Cardinal to a record fifth singles crown.

Stanford women’s tennis now turn their attention to the ITA Regional Championships, which begins Oct. 10 in Berkeley.
