Women’s golf secured its second straight team title of the season this past weekend. Junior Meja Örtengren led the effort, earning her third collegiate win.

After winning the Windy City Classic by six strokes last week, the women’s team hosted the annual Stanford Intercollegiate. 17 teams made their way to the Stanford Golf Course, including No. 2 USC, No. 8 Virginia and No. 9 Iowa State.

Despite a tough field, the Cardinal found themselves with a cushy lead after the opening round. As a group, Stanford golfers shot 13 strokes under par. Virginia, trailing by five strokes, and USC, trailing by 12 strokes, were the only two other teams to finish the day under par.

The second round was eerily similar to the first, with Stanford once again picking up a good chunk of strokes on the rest of the field. Sophomore Anna Song and junior Andrea Revuelta had played well alongside Örtengren up to this point, but a six-under-par round on Saturday separated Örtengren from the pack. Virginia remained in second a distance away, sitting 12 strokes back.

To close out the tournament on Sunday, USC put together the best team performance with a seven-under-par round, but it was not nearly enough to dethrone Stanford, who grabbed the home tournament win for the third consecutive year. Across the three rounds, the Cardinal shot 28 under par, placing 19 strokes better than runner-up Virginia, who shot nine under par.

Örtengren put a bow on an elite weekend with a four-under-par final round to take the top of the podium — an improvement from her fourth place finish at the Windy City Classic. The Sweden native is the only Cardinal to hold two top-10 finishes this season.

Revuelta, however, challenged Örtengren for the top finish during the final round. Revuelta took the lead momentarily before Örtengren reclaimed it for good, rattling off three straight birdies to wrap up the front nine. Örtengren finished the tournament 14 under par with Revuelta ending at 11 under par. This is the second straight year that a Stanford pair has claimed the top-two spots in the Stanford Intercollegiate.

Stanford will now head to Hawaii for its final tournament of the fall. The annual Nanea Invitational will take place Oct. 26-28. The Cardinal has won the tournament each of the last two seasons.
