Stanford football’s 2028 recruiting class has opened with a splash in Hunter Fujikawa — a four-star quarterback out of Mililani High School in Mililani, Hawaii — who committed to the Cardinal on Monday.Â
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound high school junior is the No. 13 quarterback and Hawaii’s top overall prospect in the class, according to 247Sports. Fujikawa chose the Farm over 28 other competitive Division I offers, including Ole Miss, Oregon and UCLA. He is the first four-star quarterback whom Stanford is set to sign in four recruiting cycles. The last was Elijah Brown of the 2024 class, who started in the final three games of 2025, including Stanford’s first Big Game win since 2020, before transferring to the Washington Huskies in January.
According to an interview with Greg Biggins of On3/Rivals, UCLA was the trending destination after Fujikawa visited the Bruins in early October, but that quickly changed after his visit to Stanford, where he saw the Cardinal win 31-28 over NC State. Fujikawa pointed to quarterback development under head coach Tavita Pritchard and General Manager Andrew Luck as the difference maker.
“Having the opportunity to learn from coaches with NFL experience and someone like Andrew Luck, who was the No. 1 overall pick and is still really involved with the program,” Fujikawa told Biggins, explaining his decision. “The coaches really believe in me there and made a point to let me know that.”
While Fujikawa is two years away from taking his first snap as quarterback for the Cardinal, Stanford football hopes he is the first commit in a strong recruiting class. With sixth-year quarterback David Warren in his last year of eligibility, the position’s future looks to be in the hands of freshman Michael Mitchell Jr., who has seen limited time on the field, completing only 10 passes for 46 yards. With Fujikawa and 2027 commit Sione Kaho, competition could be brewing in the Cardinal quarterback room.
