The No. 41-ranked Stanford men’s tennis team (7-3, 1-0 Pac-12) is set to take on another strong national opponent in the No. 8 University of Texas (13-3) on Friday. The Cardinal pulled off the upset of the year on Tuesday, taking down No. 6 California in an incredibly close 4-3 match. The result came down to the last set of the final singles match, which wound up going into a tiebreaker. Coming off the win against the Bears, the Cardinal will look to remain hot going into their grueling weekend schedule.

Instrumental to the Cardinal’s recent success has been the clutch play of nationally-ranked No. 92 sophomore Michael Genender. His late victory in the Cal match was the turning point for the victory, and the Cardinal will need more strong play off of his racquet to continue winning against top competition. Another key player for Stanford, as always, is No. 12 junior Tom Fawcett, a consistent pillar of strength for the team in the first singles spot.

The men’s team takes to the court to square off against their next opponents: The Longhorns on Friday at 3 p.m. and then TCU on Saturday at 2 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Taube Family Tennis Center, giving the Cardinal home-court advantage once again.
