With huge performances from senior Janet Hu and sophomores Katie Ledecky and Katie Drabot, No. 1 Stanford women’s swimming and diving (3-0, 2-0) swept the weekend home stand, beating Oregon State (0-2) by a score of 170-77 and No. 13 N.C. State (3-2) by a score of 189-104 in this year’s two first home meets.
The back-to-back home victories extend the current Cardinal streak of dual meet victories to 18, including 16 straight over other Pac-12 opponents.
Stanford first hosted divisional opponent Oregon State in their home opener on Thursday. Though diving did not compete, Stanford posted the fastest time in every event for the second time in a row.
Freshmen Brooke Forde and Katie Glavinovich competed in their first meets at Avery Aquatic Center, with Forde winning the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:03.05, and Glavinovich winning the 500-free with a final time of 4:49.23. Freshman Lauren Green was able to win both the 200-butterfly and 100-free with times of 1:58.44 and 50.04, respectively. The underclassmen success did not stop there as Ledecky and Drabot each prevailed in a pair of events and sophomore Allie Szekely won the 200-breast with a time of 2:14.58.
Junior Ella Eastin was able to win the 100-back with a time of 54.18 with freshman Allie Szekely following behind her at 54.89. Hu won the 200-backstroke (1:54.07) as well as the 50-freestyle (22.65).
After Stanford soundly defeated the Beavers on Thursday, the Cardinal hosted the reigning ACC Champions N.C. State the following day. N.C. State had started the season with dual meet victories over Wisconsin, Penn State and Duke. Nevertheless, the Cardinal were able to defeat the Wolfpack on Friday afternoon.
Hu, in addition to winning the 100-fly (52.62), was able to break her own record at Avery Aquatic Center with a swift time of 51.89 in the 100-backstroke. Between the two meets, Hu finished first in four different events. Drabot also won the 200-IM (1:58.66), 500-freestyle (4:43.20), and 200-butterfly (1:54.49) to help the Cardinal solidify their 13th straight home dual meet victory.
Junior Kim Williams emerged victorious in the 100-breast (1:02.30) and senior Ally Howe won the 200-backstroke (1:54.93). Meanwhile, at the Maas Diving Center, sophomore Haley Farnsworth swept both the 1-meter and the 3-meter events with scores of 280.80 and 295.20, respectively. Freshman Abby Gardner finished second in 1-meter diving with a score of 258.98 while freshman Mia Paulsen finished second in 3-meter diving with 287.48.
Eastin was able to win both the 200-free (1:46.46) and the 200-breast (2:13.13) in the Cardinal win, and, for the third time in the season’s three meets, Stanford swept the 200-free and 200-medley relays.
The Cardinal swimmers will compete next at the Art Adamson Invitational hosted by Texas A&M between Nov. 16-18. Stanford will then compete in Winter Nationals from Nov. 30-Dec. 2 in Columbus, Ohio before returning to Avery Aquatic Center in January.
