The sun is out. The birds are chirping. It’s finally spring quarter! After a winter quarter that consisted of a heavy course load, permanent cloud coverage and lots of rain, I’m ready to get outside and enjoy my spring quarter. Without further ado, here is my bucket list full of fun activities for the upcoming weeks.
- Picnic on the Oval
Picnicking on the Oval combines the two things I love the most: sunsets and cheese. A blanket, a cheese plate, refreshments and a lively group of friends are all you need to have a great sunset picnic.
2. Hammock
I have a hammock that I like to set up in various locations across campus and chill in. Some of the best places to set up are near Lake Lag and around Meyer Green. Because I’m an English major, I have a lot of reading to do for classes, and hammocking is a pretty darn relaxing way to do my homework.
3. Hike the Dish
My friend Blake and I like to hike the Dish and chat about our weeks, but unfortunately, the rain that swamped winter quarter stopped us from doing so as much as we would like to. With the return of the blue skies, we should be able to start up again.
4. Attempt to get rid of my water polo tan
Ever since I started playing water polo at age nine, I’ve had a pretty intense suit tan (and, more recently, a cap tan. too). I’ve never been able to successfully get rid of my water polo tan, but maybe this will be the year. Even if I don’t get rid of my tan, laying out on Cowell field sounds like a pretty relaxing weekend activity.
5. Fountain hop
Fountain hopping has been a Stanford tradition for a long time. I mean, even my parents, who went to Stanford way back in the ’80s, went fountain hopping. What better way to kick off the weekend than trekking around campus on a Friday afternoon, soaking in the sun and splashing around in every single fountain you come across?
6. Swim in the ocean
As a Southern California girl, I find Northern California beaches much too chilly most of the time. When I go to Half Moon Bay or Davenport, I go in sweats and a sweatshirt and still freeze. But Half Moon Bay is beautiful, so maybe, just maybe, the days will warm up enough for me to go to a Northern California beach in a bikini. And hopefully it will even be warm enough to jump in and swim in the ocean.
