Multiple Stanford players were honored with All Pac-12 Conference awards for the team’s 2019 season. Three players each were named to the All Pac-12 first team and second team, and two received honorable mentions. Headlining the group is freshman forward/midfielder Ousseni Bouda. He was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year on Wednesday to cap off his impressive first season.
Bouda started every game for the Cardinal. He scored in his very first game against Penn State. This was indicative of the season in store for Bouda, who racked up five goals and five assists through the end of the regular season.
Bouda, along with senior midfielder Derek Waldeck and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Thomas, was named to the All Pac-12 first team. Waldeck concluded the regular season with three goals and six assists — both career highs. His six assists brought his total as a Cardinal to 20, which ranks third all-time.
As a last line of defense, Thomas has been clutch all season for Stanford. He corralled 54 saves in 17 games with a .831 save percentage. His 0.62 goals against average, which eerily mirrors his mark last year of 0.63, is currently 13th in the country.
Three Cardinal players earned All Pac-12 second team honors. Senior midfielder Jared Gilbey and junior defender Logan Panchot each finished the regular season with six assists. For his career, Gilbey compiled 17 assists, while Panchot has put up three goals and nine assists.
Redshirt senior defender Tanner Beason, the final All Pac-12 second team honoree, had three goals and one assist over the course of the season. Beason only appeared in 10 games because an injury kept him sidelined for much of the season. Despite missing nearly half the season, this 2018 Pac-12 Player of the Year was a force to be reckoned with during his limited time on the field.
The Stanford players who received All-Pac-12 honorable mentions were forwards junior Charlie Wehan and redshirt sophomore Zach Ryan. Wehan ended the regular season with eight points (three goals, two assists), while Ryan finished tied atop the Cardinal stat sheet with six goals scored.
The Cardinal’s next game will be the second-round of the NCAA tournament on Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
