Stanford Health Care plans to let go of 95 employees, according to the provider’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filings. Employees were notified on Aug. 28 and laid off members of the provider’s staff will continue to be paid until Nov. 2.

“Stanford Health Care regularly reviews its operations and the needs of the patients we serve to ensure our workforce is aligned with those evolving needs,” Stanford Health Care spokesperson Lisa Kim told Palo Alto Online. “We are providing active support for redeployment within the organization where possible and opening new roles with the opportunity for impacted employees to apply.”

According to Kim, affected employees were not directly involved in patient care. “The changes will not affect our ability to deliver high-quality care to our patients,” she said.

The employees primarily belong to technology and digital solutions and other administrative departments, Kim said. The WARN filing identifies laid off employees as having occupied roles such as director of clinical applications, director of digital health tech and IT program manager.

Stanford Health Care forms part of Stanford Medicine’s system, and is legally separate from the University.

The WARN act requires companies to notify employees at least 60 days in advance of mass layoffs. The act, administered by the Department of Labor, aims to “gives workers and their families some transition time to adjust to the prospective loss of employment,” including re-training and finding new jobs.”
