Alumni will flood Stanford campus beginning on Thursday for the annual Reunion Homecoming. The weekend will bring a strong slate of Stanford games as former students look to tap back into their Cardinal spirit alongside the current student body.
Women’s golf tees off on the annual Stanford Intercollegiate at 11:45 a.m on Friday. Hoover Institution director and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will host the tournament in an effort to raise funds for breast cancer research. The Cardinal enter the tournament fresh off their first team title of the season in last week’s Windy City Classic, where they finished six strokes ahead of ACC rivals Virginia and Duke.
Maples Pavillion and Cagan Stadium will see two key ACC matches later that day at 7 p.m. Women’s volleyball (10-6, 3-3 ACC) takes on Wake Forest (8-9, 2-4 ACC) and women’s soccer (8-2-2, 2-2-1 ACC) squares up against Cal (4-4-5, 1-2-2 ACC). Women’s volleyball is coming off a mixed weekend, defeating Notre Dame (4-11, 1-5 ACC) 3-1 on Friday before falling to No. 3 Louisville (16-2, 6-0 ACC) in straight sets Sunday. Seniors Julia Blyashov and Jordyn Harvey have helped lead the Cardinal offense, both recording double-doubles in the victory against the Fighting Irish.
On the pitch, women’s soccer will look to maintain its momentum after shutting out Syracuse (4-7-2, 1-5 ACC) 2-0 in its most recent match. Junior midfielder Eleanor Klinger and freshman forward Peyton Marinos each scored as Stanford outshot the Orange 30-5. Although the Golden Bears sit well below the Cardinal in the conference standings, they have proven to be a tough beat, on full display in their 1-1 stalemate with Duke (7-1-4, 2-1-3 ACC). Â
Saturday’s festivities begin with the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate tournament. Following golf, and ahead of the football game, wrestling will spring into action by hosting an intersquad exhibition at 1:30 p.m. inside Fan Fest. The event will offer fans a sneak peak of a Cardinal squad returning a program-record six All-Americans. Wrestling opens its season Nov. 1 at the Princeton Open.
The weekend’s headline event arrives late Saturday afternoon when Stanford (2-4, 1-3 ACC) hosts Elon University (4-3, 2-2 CAA) at 4:30 p.m. The team is in desperate need of a win after suffering consecutive blowouts on the road against No. 21 Wake Forest (5-1, 3-1 ACC) and No. 2 Notre Dame (6-0). Last weekend, Stanford was overpowered 58-7 by the Fighting Irish, managing just 202 yards on offense compared to the home team’s 598 yards. The game will be Stanford’s first-ever matchup against Elon.
Sunday brings Reunion Weekend to a close with the final round of the Stanford Intercollegiate and women’s volleyball returning to Maples to face NC State (12-5, 3-3 ACC) in another conference battle. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
