Stanford introduces certificate program for aerospace engineers

April 27, 2010, 1:00 a.m.

In response to industry demands, Stanford recently announced the addition of a graduate certificate program for aerospace engineers.

The newly minted Advanced Structures and Failure Analysis program will provide online courses to engineers, who may enroll in the program independently or receive employer sponsorship.

This new professional development opportunity aims to meet a demand by the aerospace industry. Dilshani Jayasundara, a fuselage stress analysis engineer at Boeing, first proposed the idea to Stanford.

The program is offered through the University’s Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Stanford Center for Professional Development.

To earn the new certification, participating engineers must complete three graduate courses that test their knowledge on designing, building and testing aerospace vehicles.
