Monday’s protest, funding reform, piano problems and soccer shootout

Hundreds of students walked out of class on Monday morning to protest the Ferguson grand jury decision, blocking two major Palo Alto intersections. The ASSU hopes to pass significant funding reform with a special election this week. Senior Visiting Hoover Fellow and Stanford lecturer Ashton Carter may be nominated by President Obama as Secretary of Defense. Students struggle with low-quality pianos in the Braun Music Center, while prominent jazz pianist Brad Mehldau discussed his craft ahead of his performance on campus this Friday. Goalie Jane Campbell proved the hero in an Elite Eight penalty shootout to send Cardinal women’s soccer to the College Cup. Stanford men’s basketball fell flat at DePaul, and women’s basketball fell to No. 6 UNC before picking up two wins.
