Dear readers,

We are excited to announce applications are open for The Stanford Daily’s Volume 266 Editorial Board.

As we enter an election year and re-evaluate our campus priorities following intense University discourse, the Editorial Board will play an active role in providing Stanford-centered commentary on the pressing issues that face our generation and collegiate environment. We encourage you to look at our previous works, which cover topics ranging from campus free speech to Stanford’s investment obligations. These pieces have served as a backdrop for the pressing inflection points we have faced as a student body.

Part of what makes the Editorial Board unique to The Daily and Stanford is our independent, deliberative process. This volume, the board will consist of nine members, rigorously selected via internal review, who will play an equal and active role in the weekly pitching of topics, vigorous debating of viewpoints and crafting of commentary, ultimately culminating in a board-wide vote on our final piece published under our byline of the Editorial Board. The board will continue to be a place for diverse opinions, rational exchange of ideas and a common ground of perspective centered around improving the condition and quality of all members at this world-class institution that is Stanford.

Building on The Editorial Board’s prior models of representative deliberation of campus issues and ideas, this volume’s board seeks representatives from a diverse spectrum of Stanford’s community members, including undergraduate students, graduate students and — for the first time in our history — a Stanford University employee. Furthermore, given the heightened, nation-wide awareness around University events, the Editorial Board will also aim to enhance the exchange of ideas with other boards at peer institutions.

If you are passionate about Stanford and its role in the public square during this global moment of change and historic magnitude, we sincerely encourage you to apply. Join a community of unique, welcoming and precise writers and thinkers, who — just like you — have a lot of thoughts about how Stanford and elite institutions could work better for all of us.

Our application is due Oct. 22 at 11:59 p.m.
