Welcome Class of 2018! Your first few days – or weeks, or months – on campus can be pretty overwhelming. There are so many people to meet, events to attend and things to do, and you may not know where to start. Luckily for you, you’ve picked a great launching point. This website or paper you’re reading has a 122-year history of being a hub of the Stanford community and providing a window into Stanford that can only be offered by those that are living it. Just by clicking or flipping around right now, you can learn about the women’s soccer team’s record streak, the presence of new art on campus and ways the University is addressing sexual assault. No other place on campus will help you filter through the countless emails you’ll start receiving and tell you what’s really important.

We’re also looking to reach you in new ways. In the coming weeks, you’ll be able to download our mobile application, listen to our voices in podcasts and read our new blogs that will better capture student culture. Most of that 122-year history has been centered on ink and newsprint, but as everyone knows, that is changing – and we’re changing with it. We are looking to embrace the innovative mindset that characterizes this University and apply it to the field of journalism.

And finally, we want you to be part of it. Working for The Daily is a tremendous opportunity to get to know corners of this campus you would never know existed. We offer an outlet for writers, reporters, photographers, business executives, computer scientists, columnists, graphic artists and more to develop their skills in the most “real world” of environments. We’ll be soliciting applications shortly after the Activities Fair on Friday, and in the meantime, if you have any questions, please email [email protected].

There are all sorts of ways to “do Stanford,” but The Daily can and should be something that ties it together. We look forward to listening to you, talking to you and sharing your voice over the next four years.
