On May 3, 2012, Bob Bowlsby (above, left) announced his departure from athletic director at Stanford to assume the role of Big 12 Conference commissioner — a position that he still holds. Bowlsby led the Cardinal for four years and his impact is still felt on the football field; he was the one responsible for hiring current head coach David Shaw.
