Pac-12 2020 football season cancelled

The Pac-12 football fall 2020 season has been canceled. Numerous news outlets reported the news Tuesday morning, and the Pac-12 published its official announcement later in the day. The Pac-12 tentatively plans to move the season to the spring instead to avoid COVID-19 concerns.

Pac-12 players publish ‘#WeAreUnited’ open letter to conference

More than 400 Pac-12 players wrote an open letter in The Players’ Tribune to the Pac-12 and NCAA on Sunday, in which they threatened to boycott the Pac-12 fall camp and games unless the conference met a number of the players’ demands. Among these demands were addressing racial and economic injustices in the NCAA, as well as guaranteeing COVID-19 protections and safety precautions.

AVCA Hall of Fame adds Denise Corlett to its ranks

Denise Corlett, former associate head coach for Stanford women’s volleyball, has been inducted to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Hall of Fame as a member of the 2020 class. Corlett spent 31 seasons as a member of the Cardinal coaching staff as an assistant coach, interim head coach and, since 1996, associate head coach. She announced her retirement from the program in January.

Minor League Baseball canceled for 2020 season

On June 30, Major League Baseball (MLB) announced that the 2020 Minor League Baseball (MiLB) season would be canceled. We’ll now have to wait until 2021 to see every team’s exciting new prospects and other minor leaguers take the field.

Baseball’s back. But it’s still got a long way to go

On Tuesday, Major League Baseball implemented a 60-game schedule for the 2020 season, set to start on July 23 for four teams and July 24 for the remaining 26 teams. This shortened season was announced following months of debate between the Players Association (MLBPA) and the team owners regarding the fate of the season in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
